Resume: Devyani Pershad
Recent MBA Graduate looking to work in International Development or Healthcare
I chose to work in a close-knit, medium-size consulting division at Grant Thornton as a graduate, progressing from Analyst to Consultant in a period of less than two years. I was given direct responsibility very early on in my career which allowed me to stand out from the crowd and be involved in decision making and business development. I was involved in project diagnosis and implementation across sectors such as health, education, urban infrastructure, tourism etc., through client interactions, research reports and data analysis. I also had the opportunity to lead high value and impact projects for the Government of India where I had to manage multiple stakeholders from the government and communicate effectively to maintain rigor on the projects. In my role as a project manager, I enhanced my client management and leadership skills while also gaining experience of working with small and medium enterprises in a developing country. A crucial aspect of my role was financial assessment and structuring to identify financing need and alternatives. Therefore, I soon developed strong financial modelling skills and was consistently approached by other projects for support in this area.
Through the summer, I realised the strength of my flexible nature, due to my ability to work on two distinct assignments in a new work environment. My ability to quickly adapt to new cultures allowed me to form strong work and personal relationships with my Spanish colleagues and external stakeholders. My quick learning of the Spanish language over the past year further supported this process. Additionally, both my assignments were dedicated to the health sector, greatly expanding my knowledge of the same, and allowing me to confirm my inclination towards working in the field of Global Health. I utilized my time at ISGlobal to develop my understanding of the challenges being faced by agencies working in the areas of Malaria and HIV/AIDS.
I am committed to working towards strengthening essential services in the developing world, and my past experience of working in public sector consulting in India further reinforces my commitment to the same.
