Description

We are seeking applicants for two international security managers on a Nigeria contract, one long and one short term starting 1 June 2017 for 12 months (long-term) and 3 months (short-term, subject to extension).

The primary security manager (long term) will be based in Abuja and available in the client office throughout the working week. The security manager will also be available on an 'on-call” basis for incident management during weekends and public holidays. The security manager must be available for frequent and extended travel in Nigeria at short notice.

A secondary security manager (short term) should be focused on the North/Northeast of Nigeria, including Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe states. The secondary security manager should be mobile and focused on enabling and security risk management of client projects in the Northern Nigeria with specific focus on the Northeast.

Primary duties include;

Access to professional national and regional security services, including written and verbal security risk management advice and analysis to projects and Palladium operations.

Liaison with security focal points in diplomatic missions, UN and international organisations and similar organisations working in Nigeria to share knowledge.

Security risk management of client movements into and out of Nigeria, in addition to movements within Nigeria. This security management includes clearance and tracking of movements.
Monitoring and reporting of safe vehicle usage.
Pre- and on-arrival Nigeria security briefs for international visitors and client security induction training for new international and national staff.
Provision for country relevant training including driver and first aid training directly, or via an external provider as agreed with the client.

Other duties include:
Provision of safety and security alerts, information, reports and analysis to all staff including visitors, partners and client HQ.
Preparation and maintenance of client safety and security documentation, including security risk assessments (to ISO31000:2009 or similar standard) and incident reports.
Development, establishment and implementation of client's security risk management system in Nigeria, including but not limited to:
Physical security surveys of offices, accommodation, routes and third locations; Travel security Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs);
Project, area or office specific SOPs; and
Incident and medical contingency plans.
Occupational health and safety in all client Nigeria locations

Required experience:

The following technical competences are desired:
Familiarity with recognised international standards of Security Risk Management such as ISO 31000:2009.
Experience with Humanitarian and Development sector approaches to security management, as described in Good Practice Review 8 (GPR 8), and a demonstrated ability to employ an acceptance (in addition to protection or deterrence) approach to security management.
Familiarity with Nigerian context, or a demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire contextual knowledge, in particular for the North and Northeast of Nigeria.
Proven written and verbal communications skills.

Strong leadership, management and planning skills.
Ability to quickly adapt and innovative methods of communication with new technologies. Excellent initiators, able to manage multiple tasks.
Able to work under pressure and good at timely decision making.
Competent in Microsoft Office and an interest in the potential of new and social media. Knowledge and/or experience in conflict management, protection, or other related field.
Embraces culturally diversity and highly tolerant. A sense of humour is highly appreciated.
